STD1
London Transport STD Class
London Transport STD - STD 1
In 1937 Londont Transport decided to speed up its NS replacement programme and ordered 100 new buses from Leyland. Classified as 1STD1 they were based on the TD4 chassis with the standard Leyland Body. STD 91 - 100 were fitted with torque convertors when new but were later replaced with standard gearboxes. These were classified as 1STD1/1.

The bodies were Leyland standard metal framed and were modified in detail to resemble as near as possible the roof-box STL.

All were based at Hendon (AE) where they were well respected and performed most of their lives on the routes 13, 113 and 183. They operated on other routes for short periods before the war and in the early 50's when some were replaced by the new RT.

The STD class as with most London Transport vehicles is well documented and some helpful references are as follows;
