The Prototype The first post war Park Royal double decker became a common site in many fleets
on a variety of chassis. Some of the favourites, known for their rugged reliability were
built on the Guy Arab III.
Midland Red had a fleet of 20 and although
typical of the period, the half drop windows and exposed radiators gave them a dated
appearance compared with Midland Red`s own designs.
Classified GD6 3557-76 (MHA 57-76) they
were operated mainly from Dudley garage and were withdrawn in 1961-2. Southampton
Corporation had a fleet of 150 which were delivered between 1948-53 and the entire fleet
were Guy`s until 1955.
Following the supply of 435 wartime
austerity buses to London Transport, Guy Motors offered a version of their Guy Arab
chassis which could be adapted to take the RT body
G 436 (KGK 981) was fitted with a standard
Park Royal body and delivered in 1949. It operated initially from Old Kent Road and then
from Peckham on route 173. In 1951 it was transferred to Enfield where it worked on route
121 until withdrawn in 1955. Many other fleets operated similar vehicle either new or
second hand.
The Kit
The Kit has a two piece resin body
incorporating the upper deck seats. A lower seating unit/chassis unit also incorporates
the platform and staircase. Metal base and radiator are included together with a set of
WL3 wheels from the L.B.C. range. |
