BSW 3 Bedford WTB
BSW 4 Bedford OB
The Bedford chassis was a popular choice by private operators in Australia. They were used for short runs in city suburbs and the chassis was also suitable in England for rural sparsely populated areas |
|
The bodies in Australia were built by Syd Wood to a basic design on the WTB from 1933 and on the post war OB onto the early 50`s basic design. The body style remained almost unchanged through this period and unlike the U.K all were 8ft wide. Many were also extended to a 17`6 wheelbase increasing seating capacity to 33. Many were used on feeder services to local stations extensively in New South Wales and most of these had a two door configuration to allow quick unloading at the stations, additionally at peak times conductors were often used. Most of country buses had a single door increasing the seating by two and often operated on dusty unsealed roads, such was the reliability of the Bedford. |

A preserved example is based the Sydney Bus Museum in Tempe which is an extended
version, was used in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney and provided most of the details for
the kit.
